Aims
To provide a familiarisation with the principles of taking off, recording dimensions and the presentation of bills of quantities.
Coverage
- Terminology
- Level applications to earthworks, including cut and fill lines
- Review of entries to dimension paper
- Consideration of associated construction technology and sequence
- Taking off quantities for earthworks, reinforced concrete and ancillaries, drainage, roads and pavings and piling application to CESMM3
- Working-up measurements for compiling draft bills
- The weighted technique for average ground levels
- Development of descriptions
Teaching Outcomes
At the end of the workshop, the delegates should be able to:
- Define certain standard terminology associated with civil engineering works and understand its relevance to the measurement process
- Apply the weighted technique for establishing average ground levels
- Interpolate the position of cut and fill lines
- Produce measurements for drainage, concrete works, earthworks etc.
- Enter quantities on dimension paper
- Develop measurement descriptions into CESMM or MMHW format
- Produce typical bill entries for a bill of quantities
Delegates are required to supply their own calculators and scale rules with 1:100, and 1:200 scales. Copies of CESMM3 will be supplied on the course.
