• The nature and scope of subcontracting
• Overview of some of the standard forms for use with main contracts: ICE 6th & 7th Editions, NEC3, IChemE, GC Works, FIDIC (red book), IEE/IMechE Model Conditions MF/1
• Approvals and permissions
• Some typical issues

• The standard forms used in civil engineering subcontracting
• The various methods of procurement of subcontracts
• Health and safety implications of subcontracting
• The requirements of the Housing Grants Construction and Regeneration Act

• Change management, including passing instructions and valuing change
• Subcontract payment procedures
• Design issues with subcontractors
• Subcontract management and the dangers of unreasonable terms and waiver
