CES goes digital
SURCO will shortly be launching Civil Engineering Surveyor as an e-book. The digital edition will mirror the print version of CES and will be available to all members and subscribers. The e-book will replace the current pdf that some members receive by email. It will be stored on an external server and members can access it by clicking a link that will be emailed to them monthly. The print copy of CES will continue to be produced and members and subscribers will receive this as normal. The first issue is planned to be released in line with the December/January 2010 edition of CES and the editors hope members and subscribers will soon get used to the various tools available to view, print and search the journal.

ICES granted royal charter
SURCO's parent body, the Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES), has been granted a royal charter by the Queen's Privy Council. In December 2008, at the instruction of the ICES Council of Management, a petition was submitted to the Privy Council seeking Her Majesty’s pleasure in granting a royal charter to the Institution. On Friday 20 March 2009, the following message was received from the clerk to the Privy Council:
At the Privy Council meeting on 18 March, Her Majesty approved an Order approving the draft ICES Charter and ordering the Lord Chancellor to pass it under the Great Seal.
Whilst there remain a number of steps before the sealed charter is received by the Institution, which may take a number of months to complete, president Steve Jackson has been advised that these are merely procedural and that the grant of the charter is now confirmed. At the earliest juncture following the completion of the remaining process, ICES will move to relaunching itself as the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors
TSA to hold AGM at XCES
The Survey Association (TSA) will be holding its AGM at the XCES exhibition in York on 23 April at 12 noon. Further information is available for TSA members on the TSA website.
