About SURCO Training

SURCO TRAINING is a division of the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors' information business SURCO Ltd.

It was founded to provide commercial training resources, advice and help for employers of construction personnel, especially those working in civil engineering, and for individuals engaged in commercial activities within the industry.

Quantity surveyors in civil engineering generally have a much wider role than those in the construction or building arms of the industry. Their duties are not essentially confined to forecasting or managing development or construction costs but extend to include many aspects of measurement and valuation, commercial risk assessment, contract documentation, procurement, financial reporting and advising on contractual and insurance issues and dispute resolution.

As a consequence, a wide range of both technical and other softer skills, such as communication and negotiation, is required.

The institution's Education, Professional Development and Membership Committee recommends SURCO commercial management courses to its membership and the civil engineering industry. They provide an excellent opportunity to expand the knowledge and understanding of the essential skills of a professional commercial manager, and support the development of the competence requirements of full members and fellows of ICES.

EPD&M recommends and endorses SURCO as a provider of training courses supporting the development of the commercial manager in the civil engineering industry.
